Abstract:

Repaglinide is an oral antihyperglycemic agent used for the treatment ofnon-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus. Themain objective of the studywas to formulate and evaluatebioadhesivebuccaltablets to avoid the first pass metabolismin liver. Bioadhesive buccal tablets were prepared by direct compression methodusingbioadhesive polymers likeHPMCK4 M,HPMC K15 M,Chitosan,HPMC K100 M,Sodium CMC,Carbopol 974 P,Sodium Alginate,Gum karayaandCarbopol 941NFin different ratios. The physicochemical compatibility of drug and polymers was studied by FT-IRspectroscopy.Prepared tablets were evaluated forpermeation study through porcine buccal mucosa, in vitrodrug release, bioadhesion strength, swelling index, moisture absorbance, surface pH.
