Abstract:

Language is an ever evolving, arbitrary system. This human construct works in everyday to express a wide range of emotions, ideas, concepts and actions. The ultimate function of language is to unlock the barriers involved in the complex process of thinking. Language learning theories emerged out of the necessity of acquiring the basic communication skills in pace with man’s thirst for travel started. Basically, language is a skill subject in which proficiency is achieved through intellectual involvement.According to the Lockean concept of Tabula Rasa, children are often considered as “blank Slates”. They are born with expectations about the objects around them. They contain an untaught knowledge of their linguistic surroundings too. The development of these linguistic abilities and their instinctive notions to acquire new languages other than their native language is the topic considered for analysis. This paper intends to study the impact of visual media on children’s language development. The present study uses the theories of learning to analyze the children’s language acquiring process. It counts on how code switching is done in a multilingual platform. Also the process of active knowledge building and mental cognition in learning and identifying multiple languages by children are areas of introspection.
