Abstract:

Stress among adolescents has been documented as a global problem, affecting adolescents’ health and well-being. Adolescents who had high level of stress may discontinue their study, leading to a more serious problem such as anxiety and depression, which a major cause of death. This situation may affect their psychological well-being which is an important element for a positive adolescence development. Thus, preventing mental health problems and promote psychological well-being among adolescents is an urgent issue. Numerous studies examined the relationships among stress and health outcome; nevertheless, a mechanism of mindfulness, self-efficacy, and resilience on the stress–psychological well-being has not been extensively tested in Thai adolescents. This study aimed to examine the mediating role of mindfulness, self-efficacy, and resilience in the relationship of stress to psychological well-being among adolescents in Thailand. A cross-sectional, descriptive correlational research design was used to conduct this research. The sample of 624 adolescents were collected from schools in Bangkok and Nakonprathom provinces, Thailand. Data were analyzed using LISREL. The results revealed that a strong effect of stress on psychological well-being, as well as on mediation by intervening variables was found. The results also enhanced understanding of how to develop and target psychological interventions to promote psychological well-being, and optimize mental health among Thai adolescents.
