Abstract:

To review epidiomolgy, etiology, clinical findings, comorbidity, complications and the management of deep neck abscess In this study, a total 92 patients (39 peritonsillar cases and 4other cases were excluded because of different reasons) with deep neck infections were studied retrospectively, study conducted in the department of otorhinolaryngolgy, head & neck surgery department faculty of medicine, Omar Almoukhtar University, Albyda – Libya central teaching hospital, from January 2016 to June 2018. Analysis showed that males are most likely to have deep neck space infections (DNSI). Odontogenic causes were the more frequent ones Neck swelling, fever, dysphagia and trismus were the most frequent presenting symptoms. The submandibular space was the most affected. DNSI remains a common and challenging disease for otorhinolaryngologists, and should be treated on emergencybasis. In present study DM was the most found co-morbidity, Odontogenic infections were the most common etiological factor for DNSI. The three keys to successful management of deep neck infectionsare protection and control of the airway, antibiotic therapy and surgical drainage.
