The Social Dimensions of Abolishing the Obligatory Service Law After 2003

The subject of obligatory military service forms a great importance at the present time because of its positive qualities that seek to spread the social awareness which is represented by pride in the national identity, a sense of responsibility and patriotism, which give rise to the values and behavioral trends that enable them to deal in a logical style with the social data that help to increase the social cohesion and integration among the components of the Iraqi society, which contributes to achieve the stability of social security. Therefore, the cultural, social, economic and political transformations that the Iraqi society witnessed after 2003 had affected in forming new social dimensions for individuals in general and youth in particular with their attitudes, which made them subject to different types of intellectual and psychological conflicts, shaken the values and morals and confused ideals and ideas, that it has become expected that the Iraqi society will face a conflict between the needs of young people and the requirements of social life, which led to the emergence of the behavioral patterns that are inconsistent with social values, the exacerbation of social problems and the emergence of behavioral deviations that serve to disintegrate society. However, the issue of the Iraqi army is characterized by a special importance, as it is one of the most prominent aspects of political and constitutional development, with all of this, it has not been seriously studied, either because of its sensitivity or the scattering of its rare documents, but the importance of the topic and the urgent need for it at the present and future accordingly, it is one of the reasons that lead the researchers to study the military establishment.
