It portrays many dimensions of the prose to tell story through the artists to facsimile. It includes the content writer, plot-construction, the actor, the characterization, the discourses, music composition, dance, carriage, the audiences and the stage. Indian English drama comprises the entire Indian myths and its culture. The origin of Indian drama is found in the Vedic Period. Drama falls under the category of Drishya. The word Drishya comes from Sanskrit which means it can be seen by anyone. Indian English Drama has registered a remarkable growth and maturity through the English translation of Hindi, Marathi and the Bengali plays in the 1980s and the 1990s. A study of Girish Karnad’s amply reveals that he has added a new dimension to Indian drama through his substantial contribution. Talking an all-round view of things, it may be said that Indian English drama has achieved a considerable measure of success. Yet it has to go a long way to complete with the other literary genres in Indian English literature. Karnad is a well-known native playwright in Kannada. He has been started translating his own plays into English and some Indian languages. Kannada, the native language is his choice of writing. While Karnad started writing his plays, Kannada literature was drastically influenced by the renaissance in Western literature. But Karnad followed his distinct way of writing plays.
