Abstract:

Toxoplasma gondii is an obligate intracellular protozoan parasite that is a main opportunistic pathogen in immunocompromised patients that possess cancer disease. Breast carcinoma is one of the generality common cancers in the world. The causes of breast carcinoma cannot be clearly identified but there are many factors that stimulate breast cancer, including genetic factors and environmental factors, It is also possible that one of the causes of breast cancer is viral or parasitic. The aim of this study was the possibility of the relationship between toxoplasmosis in breast cancer patients by molecular technique and Real-Time PCR to discuss the existence of the T.gondii in the breast cancer tissue. Breast tumor tissue collected from 80 patients, DNA was extracted and RealTime PCR was performed. A result of Toxoplasma gondii were reported for 29 out of 59 cases of malignant breast cancer. There were a high incidence of T.gondii in stage II of breast cancer (37.3%), and the results also showed a high incidence of T.gondii in grade II of breast cancer (42.4%). In addition, the highest positive result of Toxoplasma gondii(18.6%) was found in the age group (41-50). In view of the results demonstrate that the increased incidental rate of toxoplasmosis may consider as an indication to the high risk of cancer due to the fact that the latent Toxoplasma infection and the age group (41-50) have high incidence of breast cancer and Toxoplasma infection.
