JALLIKATTU (2019): AN ANIMALISTIC PORTRAYAL OF HUMAN BEINGS

Jallikattu, a 2019 Malayalam action film, directed by Lijo Jose Pellisery comments on the darker side of human beings and the wilderness of nature. The film attempts to show the futile effort of humans to conquer and overpower nature. Also the so called progressive men are torn apart into someone whose actions are based on instincts like lust and greed. Pellisery wants to show how human beings are ruled over by their baser instincts and emotions. This paper intends to show how Pellisery has tried to portray his perception of human beings through various elements of mise-en-scene. The movie was greatly acknowledged for its cinematography, which the director used wisely to depict the nature of human beings and their battle with nature represented by the bull.
