Local Wisdom in Traditional Games as a Family Literacy Media

Abstract:

This study aims to describe local wisdom in traditional games that can be used as media literacy in the family and describe the form of literacy in the family. The subjects of this study were several Hindu families. Research data was collected through observation, documentation study, and in-depth interviews. The analysis was carried out in verbal narrative using interpretation and argumentation techniques based on the results of data triangulation. The results showed that the values of local wisdom contained in traditional games were universally in line with the values of honesty, values of solidarity / friendship, values of intimacy / kinship, values of responsibility, values of hard work, values of communicative, and values of environmental care. The form of family literacy is instilled through the values contained in traditional games is cultural literacy, scientific literacy, financial literacy, numeracy literacy, and citizenship literacy. Based on these results, it can be concluded that literacy education or learning in families occurs naturally by utilizing the values contained in traditional games so that knowledge is obtained indirectly through play activities.
